“Why me?” Amazing how two little words can carry such weight. I wonder if this is the first time something like this has happened to him?
Okay, so ignoring the implied insult in that the genemod soldiers consider the police such a low-level threat that they don’t even respond to the circle of firearms, there’s a huge question here. What, exactly, happened with the mod-bot controller unit in the cave? I mean, yah, it tells its sob story of having a few remote units destroyed by space explorers, but these guys are trained soldiers. Did they violate their training and go,, “Well, let’s let bygones be bygones,” and leave a dangerous piece of unregulated equipment functional in that cave, or did they do their job (endangering the entire galkaxy if they failed) and destroy the controller unit?
First, in defence of Zeus’ somewhat life-threatening move waltzing into a crowded police station in full battle gear- part of why he thinks he can get away with this is because he is crazy, but part of it is that there is a personal connection he plans to exploit (as will become evident on the next page). He does this as a known quantity, one that has not (until now?) been a public enemy, and I guess he thinks that will be enough to keep him from being shot on sight.
As for the Vourasq brain-bot, those are very interesting questions you ask. Questions that will be answered, but not until near the end of this chapter.
That poor captain~! It seems like this kind of thing happens often~
