This ship was built out of a novelty submarine. It needs to be air-tight, but its propulsion system is the “warp bubble” that it creates, which can be moved independently of gravity, and protects the contents from radiation, momentum, etc. There is a small chance the bubble could fail while the ship is in space, so you need to have a container to keep your air in as a stop-gap. But in theory, you could travel the universe with just a warp bubble generator clutched in your hands and no ship at all.
The submarine is the one from the “Finding Nemo” submarine ride at Disneyland. Which is barely a submarine at all.
